As entertainer Jung Hyeong-don recently unveiled a new tonkatsu restaurant, a candid review by a YouTuber has sparked attention.
On the 20th, a video titled "Honest Review of Jung Hyeong-don's Tonkatsu Shop" was released on the YouTube channel 'Jae Shurang Guide.' The video featured the YouTuber visiting the newly opened tonkatsu restaurant run by Jung to taste and evaluate the menu items.
The YouTuber evaluated the restaurant's menu, saying it is "not extraordinary, but the old-fashioned tonkatsu we know." While noting that the cheese oozing out of the cheese tonkatsu was a disappointing aspect, they gave a positive reaction to the stir-fried kimchi tonkatsu, stating it was "delicious."
They then concluded by saying, "Rather than expecting an incredibly outstanding gourmet spot, you can simply think of it as 'Jung Hyeong-don opened a tonkatsu shop.'"
Netizens who viewed the video responded with comments such as, "Since the location is in Seongsu, a prime commercial area, there seems to be a slight price premium," and "I'm curious about the stir-fried kimchi tonkatsu."
Jung entered the tonkatsu business in 2011 by launching a tonkatsu product bearing his name. The product garnered significant attention, selling out within 14 minutes during its first home shopping broadcast.
However, in 2013, the prosecution indicted Jung Hyeong-don and three others without detention on charges of selling tonkatsu with falsely labeled pork loin content.
The prosecution determined that they had deceived consumers by selling tonkatsu containing 135 grams of pork loin as if it contained 162 grams, thereby securing approximately 7.6 billion won in unjust gains. The case was ultimately concluded with a fine sentence.
Subsequently, Jung challenged the tonkatsu business again. Historian Sim Yong-hwan shared news about Jung's tonkatsu restaurant on his social media on Oct. 12, praising it by saying, "It is truly good that the menu is affordable yet substantial."
