Singer Roy Kim revealed an anecdote about being hit by his mother after coveting a luxury watch during his high school years.
On Monday, a video titled "Calling Gangnam's Neighborhood Friends" was posted on the YouTube channel "Zzanbro Shin Dong-yup." The video featured broadcaster Gangnam, Roy Kim, and singer Choi Ye-na, who discussed various topics.

In the video, Roy Kim said that he usually likes watches and shared an anecdote involving his mother related to timepieces.
He recalled, "At the American high school I attended, there was a culture where parents bought watches as graduation gifts. My parents were the only ones who did not come to the graduation ceremony, so I graduated alone. Since things had turned out that way, I thought I could save on airfare and asked them to buy me just one good watch as a memento."
He continued, "At the time, the watch I wanted cost between 4 million and 5 million won. Honestly, it makes no sense for a high school student's watch. I naturally expected my mother to say, 'Don't say such nonsense,' but she said, 'Is that okay?'"

Roy Kim said that upon seeing his mother's positive reaction, he considered visiting a more expensive brand store than originally planned. However, he recounted that after leaving the watch store, in a situation where the staff could not see them, his mother hit him on the back of the head, adding, "She hit me because she wanted me to come to my senses."
He added, "My mother said, 'Where is your common sense? A high school student asking for a 5 million won watch?' I cried because my pride was hurt. After feeling humiliated, I never asked my parents to buy things for me again. I told myself, 'I will earn the money and buy it myself.' As soon as I started earning money, I immediately bought a watch."
