Hyundai Motor Group has launched a dedicated organization to formulate its global robotics business strategy. This move appears aimed at refining the direction of the business as it puts the humanoid robot "Atlas" and other robotics ventures, including Yangsan and sales, on track.
According to automotive industry sources on the 15th, Hyundai Motor Group recently established an "RX Business Strategy Team" under its Future Business Strategy Division through an organizational restructuring. RX is generally used as an abbreviation for Robotics eXperience or Roboics Transformation. Hyundai Motor Group has newly defined RX as "Robotics Everything," incorporating both meanings, and applied this to the name of the new organization. This reflects the group's determination to conceive and formulate strategies across all areas related to its robotics business. A group official stated, "We determined that a more systematic and refined strategy was necessary to expand global robotics technology and business domains and strengthen competitiveness across the entire robotics value chain."
Currently, Hyundai Motor Group's Robotics Lab is responsible for the wearable robot "ExBr Shoulder" and the mobile robot platform "Moved," while its affiliate Boston Dynamics handles Atlas and the quadruped robot "Spot." Views both inside and outside the group suggest that this organizational restructuring was carried out because synergies between these two organizations are seen as directly linked to the overall capabilities of the robotics business.
The top priority for the RX Business Strategy Team is expected to be securing efficient Yangsan and practical deployment of Atlas, as well as establishing external sales channels. Atlas, scheduled for production starting in 2028, is planned for deployment at Hyundai Motor Group's U.S. automotive plants, with future sales also projected to target global automakers.
