On the 26th, LG Electronics announced the launch of the 'LG DIOS AI Objet Collection STEM Ice-and-Water Refrigerator,' which improves user convenience with AI (artificial intelligence) functions and a drawer-style freezer.
STEM is LG Electronics' direct-water refrigerator brand that supplies clean water through a direct water line and produces ice. It is characterized by offering ice in various sizes and shapes, including craft ice, cube ice, and crushed ice.
LG Electronics added a new drawer-type model to its lineup, featuring a convertible function that allows free switching between freezer and refrigerator modes, along with an ergonomic design. The company stated this broadens customer choice and further strengthens product competitiveness by reflecting diverse lifestyles and usage patterns.
The new product changed the bottom freezer from the conventional side-opening style to a drawer type divided into a middle section and a lower section. It enhanced user convenience through ergonomic analysis of factors such as the degree of bending in the waist and legs, and the muscle usage required to maintain posture. Opening the drawers allows users to check and retrieve food items at a glance from above, reducing the burden of deeply bending the waist or kneeling.
The middle section (convertible drawer) features a convertible function that allows selection of storage modes suitable for freezing, refrigeration, and specific food items. Using the 'LG ThinQ' app (application), users can select from a total of 14 storage modes, including baby food, meal kits, dairy products, wine, and kimchi. The lower section is equipped with a freezer function and an automatic ice maker.
STEM integrates AI features into core component technology to manage the freshness of food items according to customer usage patterns and improve energy efficiency. 'AI Fresh Care' uses AI to learn refrigerator usage times and door opening frequency, activating intensive cooling mode in advance before meal preparation to keep food inside the refrigerator fresh. During periods of low usage frequency, it optimizes compressor operation with 'AI Saving Mode' to enhance energy efficiency.
Food storage performance has also been strengthened. Notably, the number of 'Fresh Custom Compartments,' which support customized temperature storage for different food items, has increased from one to two. The 'UV Purification Deodorizing Filter+' and 'Pure Fresh Filter' suppress bacterial growth in the internal air and effectively remove odors. An 'Auto Closing' function that automatically closes the refrigerator door when it reaches a certain angle has also been applied.
The highly preferred 'Fit & Max' design was applied to enhance space utilization and interior completion. Zero clearance hinge technology reduces the gap between the refrigerator and the wall, creating a clean and integrated interior look. Installation is possible with only 4mm of clearance on each side and a minimum of 9mm at the top from the wall surface.
A 6.8-inch display is installed on the front panel to allow key settings to be checked at a glance. It can be conveniently operated via an intuitive touch method. Inside, the 'Light Gallery' function, which glows softly like gallery lighting, adds a luxurious atmosphere.
Using the subscription service, product performance is inspected every three months, and experts meticulously manage filter replacement, direct water lines, water dispensers, door rubber packing, and exterior appearance. In particular, the machine room on the back of the refrigerator, which is difficult to maintain directly, has its cooling fins and cooling fans cleaned of accumulated dust and foreign matter every 36 months.
Kim Jae-il, head of LG Electronics' Kitchen Solutions Division, stated, "We will present a differentiated customer experience in the domestic refrigerator market by leading with the new convertible drawer model." He added, "Going forward, we will continue to further strengthen the inherent performance of our products and introduce home appliances optimized for customers' diverse lifestyles."
