SK Discovery announced on the 30th that it has appointed Yoon Byung-seok, President and CEO of SK Gas (photo), as its new CEO.
President Yoon Byung-seok has built expertise across all business areas at SK Gas, including management support, gas operations, solutions & trading, and power generation. Since serving as President and CEO in 2018, he has been evaluated for simultaneously driving portfolio refinement and the discovery and growth of new businesses by expanding the company's LPG-centric business structure into LNG and power generation.
SK Gas successfully established a foundation for new growth businesses spanning LNG import, storage, supply, and power generation by completing the Korea Energy Terminal (KET) in 2024 and commencing commercial operations at UlsanGPS, a 1.2GW (gigawatt) combined LNG (liquefied natural gas) and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) power plant.
This year, SK Discovery has been working to improve its financial soundness by completing portfolio restructuring, including the sale of SK Eternix and SK D&D. Based on this, the company plans to actively pursue the discovery and commercialization of new growth businesses starting in 2027.
The company stated, "With this appointment, we will strengthen the competitiveness of the energy, materials, and bio businesses under SK Discovery and aggressively advance the discovery and growth of future businesses."
