IonQ, a U.S.-based ion trap quantum computer company, has signed a partnership with domestic quantum technology specialist SDT and will establish a quantum manufacturing hub in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province.
On the 22nd, SDT announced that it has signed a strategic partnership with IonQ and will promote manufacturing and system integration cooperation in the Asia-Pacific and Japan regions.
The core of this agreement is to expand the cloud resource linkage cooperation previously pursued by both companies into the physical manufacturing and operation of quantum computer hardware, as well as distribution within the region. Accordingly, IonQ will introduce its latest quantum computer, 'Superion 256,' and silicon vacancy (SiV) quantum memory modules to Korea.
SDT is IonQ's priority manufacturing partner in the Asia-Pacific and Japan regions. When new manufacturing demand arises for IonQ's quantum memory and related component manufacturing, or for quantum computing system assembly, integration, and commissioning, SDT will be given priority in negotiating business opportunities.
IonQ and SDT will establish a dedicated quantum manufacturing and system integration facility in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province. This hub will handle packaging and manufacturing of IonQ's SiV quantum memory, as well as assembly, integration, and commissioning of quantum systems.
The Superion 256 will be deployed for domestic SDT customer projects. It is planned to be utilized as infrastructure for biomedical research at the upcoming HYBE-led quantum-classical data center in Korea.
Niccolo de Marchi, Lee Sa-hoe (Chairman) and CEO of IonQ, said, "This agreement in the Asia-Pacific region is another example of combining IonQ's computers with quantum networking and quantum memory solutions," adding, "We will continue to expand our commercial base in Korea while sustaining quantum-based cancer and biomedical research."
Yoon Ji-won, CEO of SDT, stated, "This marks a significant turning point for SDT as it fully enters the manufacturing ecosystem of the global quantum industry," and added, "Through collaboration with IonQ, we will secure world-class quantum manufacturing and system capabilities."
