The board of directors of the Korea Broadcasting System (KBS) selected Lee Taehyun as the candidate for the 28th KBS president and submitted a nomination request to the President.
At an extraordinary board meeting held on the 20th, the KBS board conducted final interviews with three candidates recommended by the National Recommendation Committee for the Presidential Candidate on the 17th, and subsequently selected Lee Taehyun as the nominee through a vote.
Candidate Lee Taehyun received votes from at least three-fifths of the 10th directors in attendance. At the board meeting, Lee Kang-deok and Jang Han-sik, directors recommended by the People Power Party who were appointed on the 19th, newly joined, bringing the total number of participating directors to 10. However, Director Lee Kang-deok and Director Jang Han-sik requested a postponement of the vote, but their request was not accepted, and they left just before the voting took place.
Candidate Lee Taehyun graduated from the Department of Philosophy at Korea University, joined KBS as a producer in 1994, and has served as Director of the KBS Content Business Division, Representative Director of (Ltd.) Content Wave, and director of Hanam Moon Hwa-jae-dan (CEO).
The selection of the 28th KBS president was made after an open recruitment announcement in September last month, involving document reviews of 28 applicants and intermediate interviews with 10 candidates. The National Recommendation Committee for Presidential Candidates, composed of 205 citizens, then conducted business plan presentations and deliberative discussion evaluations on five candidates in sequence.
KBS plans to send an official letter requesting a nomination to the Lee Sa-hoe-neun (President) to the relevant institutional investors.
Candidate Lee Taehyun will undergo the National Assembly’s personnel hearing procedures in accordance with Article 50, Paragraph 2 of the Broadcasting Act, Article 65-2 of the National Assembly Act, and the Personnel Hearing Act, among others. If the Lee Hu (President) is appointed following the personnel hearing, he will begin his term as the 28th KBS president.
