Kwon Min-ah (32), formerly of the group AOA, revealed her older sister's embezzlement and announced legal action.
On the 4th, Kwon Min-ah posted a lengthy message on her Instagram, beginning with: "What is family? For me, only my mother remains as a family member."
Kwon Min-ah mentioned her older sister with whom she has lost contact since their father passed away. She stated that her older sister embezzled money belonging to herself, her mother, and an acquaintance of her mother, then cut off contact several years ago without offering an apology.
She said, "She committed far too many evil acts for someone I would call family." She added, "I am not the type who divides 'your money' and 'my money' among family members. When in need, if one cannot repay what was used, a sincere 'I'm sorry' should have been enough."
She wrote, "About two years ago, I asked my mother and learned the details. All of her assets, my separate bank accounts, and even the money I had given to my mother disappeared."
Separately, she revealed that she personally covered her older sister's surgery and chemotherapy costs while the sister was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. At the time, she believed it was something one should do for family, but as conflicts between her mother and older sister worsened, her own feelings deteriorated.
She stated, "I signed loan agreements totaling 150 million won and documents for vehicle purchases exceeding 100 million won. Adding up the money taken from three people, it exceeds 700 to 800 million won." She continued, "If there is resentment, sadness, or anger between us, let's resolve it, embrace each other sincerely, support one another, and stand by each other. I believe it is not too late even now. If you have no intention of doing so, I will expose charges of fraud, forgery of official documents, embezzlement, and extortion." She also mentioned the possibility of legal action.
Kwon Min-ah also spoke about her childhood. She said she began working part-time from middle school to support her family's living expenses and personally resolved issues when her father failed to provide child support.
She said, "I wanted to rely on my older sister at the time," adding, "I was told not to boast that I had a younger sibling because it was embarrassing. The last time I saw my older sister, she looked like a monster. She was truly cruel."
Kwon Min-ah debuted with AOA in 2012, left the group in 2019, and began working as an actress. In 2020, she exposed that she had been continuously bullied by fellow member Jimin.
She also publicly revealed family conflicts related to her older sister in 2021.
