'Godfather of CM Songs,' singer and composer Kim Do-hyang (81), revealed his painful childhood marked by his father's frequent infidelities.
On the 10th, MBN's 'Special Report World' featured Kim Do-hyang, a singer with 57 years in the industry.
Kim confessed, "I was often angry since I was young due to my family environment," adding, "I hated my father."
He explained about his father, "He was like a professor or teacher. He opened a cram school and became hugely successful. He earned a lot of money but never brought it home."
He further revealed, "(My father) introduced around 50 women as 'your mother.' That's how he lived his life outside the home with so many women."
He continued, "My mother was also in pain. Every evening, she cried alone. I slept in the same room, but how could I sleep when she was crying?"
Even after Kim achieved success as a singer without his father's help, the conflict between father and son continued.
He said, "After I became successful, my father, who was already wealthy, asked me, 'Will you marry me off?' That made me cry a lot. Since then, I haven't seen him." He confessed to cutting ties with his father while showing tears when speaking about his mother, saying, "I feel sorrowful toward my mother."
Later, Kim visited his parents' graves and shared, "My mother passed away in 2002. My father died even earlier but was later buried here. They were forcibly interred together." He expressed his wish for the two to be close again.
She added, "It seems that whether the relationship between parents and children is good or bad doesn't matter at all. Now that we are separated, only longing fills my heart," shedding tears of regret.
Kim Do-hyang debuted in 1970 as part of the folk duo 'Two Koreans' and became a representative star of the 1970s with his hit song 'I Lived Like a Fool.' She has composed over 4,000 CM songs, including 'Screw Bar,' 'Acacia Gum,' and 'LG Group.'
