A story was shared about a 31-year-old son who repeatedly causes financial problems and his mother who cleans up after him.
On the episode of tvN STORY's variety show 'Lee Ho-sun Counseling Office' aired on the 29th, the story of an older sister was introduced, whose family spent 100 million won to clean up after her younger brother's financial mishaps.
The caller stated, "My younger brother took out a 30 million won credit loan without the family knowing," and added, "Because he couldn't handle the loan, he also applied for personal rehabilitation without telling the family, which was shocking."
She continued, "He bought a motorcycle without the family's knowledge and got into an accident. My mother paid the price of a small car, and I contributed 0.1 billion won," revealing, "It has cost over 100 million won just to clean up after my brother's accidents."
The caller said, "My younger brother is a bundle of stress. He always feels like a ticking time bomb," sharing her concerns about her younger brother, who lacked financial awareness since childhood.
The caller's younger brother and mother appeared in the studio to discuss the situation.
The mother said, "My son is over 30, and I am worried about his future. I am always anxious. I worry whether he has done something wrong after drinking, and because he has no concept of money, it worries me," expressing that she is constantly worried about her son causing trouble.
The mother revealed the financial problems her son had caused over the years.
According to her, while serving in the military, the son opened two mobile phone lines under his name at a friend's request and later faced debt collection. The friend sold the phones second-hand, and the family had to bear the 4th million won in fees.
The son also purchased a motorcycle without the family's knowledge and rode it until he suffered a comminuted fracture of the leg, requiring one year of rehabilitation treatment in a wheelchair. The rehabilitation costs alone amounted to 30 million won at the time.
While preparing for employment, the son said he needed a vehicle to transport goods, and he caused another accident with the car his mother had provided. The mother said, "At first, I felt sorry for him, but the second time, I was angry."
The son took out loans from third-tier financial institutions that offer high-interest loans without collateral, engaged in so-called 'borrowing to repay' (rolling over debts), and eventually failed to repay the money, leading him to undergo personal rehabilitation procedures.
The mother stated that it cost approximately 100 million won just to clean up after her son's accidents, saying, "I kept helping with the cleanup, but I stopped after the second car accident. When the second accident happened, I kicked him out, and he left."
In response, the son lived in a single-room guesthouse for two months before returning home at his mother's call, who was worried he might cause another incident.
The mother demanded that the son pay 500,000 won per month because she had spent a lot of money cleaning up after his accidents. The son promised to repay it but only paid for two or three months and has not paid since.
The son revealed, "I took out a total of 70 million won in loans," and the mother laughed bitterly, saying, "I didn't know it was that much." She continued, "This is the first time I'm hearing this. I thought the loan amount was 30 to 40 million won. It's absurd," sighing.
When Lee Ho-sun asked why he took out such a large loan, the son explained, "I use it when meeting friends, and if something new comes out, I get interested and feel I have to buy it." He added, "I am very interested in laptops and cars, so I bought car parts and things like that."
Hearing this, Lee Ho-sun urged, "Financial problems must not occur again from now on." He continued, "You need to study the concept of money. You must start preparing for the future. No more financial mishaps," emphasizing the point.
In a sentence completion test conducted earlier, the son wrote, "I don't remember well when I was young" and "My family was busy when I was young."
The son said that in his childhood, "I was just left somewhere. My mother was busy, so she couldn't take care of me. I don't even remember being with my older sister because I was too young."
In response, the older sister explained, "My younger brother was left at an aunt's house for four to five years when he was about four years old, and during elementary school, he was left at a relative's older sister's house for about two to three years."
After that, the son lived in a soccer player village, then lived with relatives during middle school, and subsequently participated in a church group overseas study program for four years. In his third year of high school, he lived in a dormitory as part of a group at a church in Gangneung, Gangwon Province.
Hearing this, Jang Young-ran expressed sympathy, saying, "He wandered around like a drifter."
The son said, "I started living with my mother from university," recalling that when he was young, his mother came to see him about four or five times a year. He stated, "(I was beaten a lot by the older brothers I met in Kenya). My mother wasn't there then because she was busy."
Hearing this, Lee Ho-sun pointed out, "It seems we need to talk about family matters again. Neither the daughter nor the son had their mother for life. I understand that your mother lived very hard and couldn't take care of you, but I cannot understand leaving a child in various homes for 16 years, from age four to twenty."
He continued, "Your mother seems to have worked hard and provided consistent support, but she lacked emotional love." He added, "You said your mother told her son to pay 500,000 won each time. It seems he doesn't need to pay this money.
