Actress Lee Hui-hyang confessed that she learned to smoke from her husband in order to portray the role of businesswoman Oh Yun-hee in the drama "Years of Ambition."
On the 29th, a second video featuring actress Lee Hui-hyang was released on the YouTube channel "Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life."
In the video, Lee Hui-hyang recalled that she portrayed an ambitious businesswoman character in the drama "Years of Ambition," which was modeled after Jang Young-ja.
When Song Seung-hwan said, "I think you must have started to feel like you were actually acting," Lee Hui-hyang replied, "That's right. When that role came up, I actually said no at first. Looking at the script, I had to smoke and was a woman in a bar," recalling the time.
She recalled, "At that time, my child was in the first grade of elementary school. I had to smoke in front of my child, but I didn't want to show such a side. When I said 'I can't do this,' they told me, 'You will be called an actress for doing this. There is no one other than Ms. Lee Hui-hyang who can handle this.'"
Lee Hui-hyang revealed that she decided to appear in the drama by trusting writer Na Yeon-sook.
She explained, "From then on, I also learned to smoke. I learned from my husband. My husband said I couldn't puff on a 'puff cigarette.' He said viewers would curse if they saw it. He said I had to smoke properly. While learning, I would faint and collapse, and even collapse in bed."
Song Seung-hwan recalled, "The role in 'Years of Ambition' was truly impressive. Wasn't it a strong woman's role?" adding, "That drama is the one that made Lee Hui-hyang an actress."
Lee Hui-hyang said, "If I were told to do it now, I think I wouldn't be able to," shaking her head in disbelief.
Lee Hui-hyang was selected as the second runner-up of Miss MBC in 1981 and debuted that year as a talent from MBC's 14th public recruitment. The following year, she rose to prominence by appearing in the drama "Chief Inspector." She later appeared in dramas such as "Love and Ambition," "Moonlight Family," "Years of Ambition," "General Hospital," "Daughter's House," "Woman Incheon," and "Stairway to Heaven."
Lee Hui-hyang married the late Kim Du-jo, who was 19 years her senior and had a background in organized crime, in 1982, and they have two sons. Kim Du-jo left his life in organized crime to work as a businessman and passed away from lung cancer in September 2005.
