The group ILLIT issued a statement regarding the controversy surrounding their stage costumes, which resembled police uniforms.
At the showcase held on the 26th in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, to mark the release of ILLIT's fifth mini-album "BREAK EVEN," questions were raised about the recent costume controversy.
Previously, at their encore concert held on the 17th and 18th, ILLIT gave a preview performance of their new song "I'll Arrest You." At the time, members wearing short skirts, knee-high socks, and uniforms with defined waistlines blew whistles while performing the "dog-leg dance" or executed choreography that mimicked firing guns. This drew criticism such as "sexualizing female police officers" and "mocking female police officers."
When asked about this at the showcase, member Yuna said, "We first revealed the 'I'll Arrest You' stage during our tour, and while we were happy about the enthusiastic response, we were also surprised," adding, "We believe it is a grateful thing that any kind of attention means people are paying attention to our stage."
She continued, "As you can see from the music video, 'I'll Arrest You' is based on a Black Agent concept. We plan to showcase various styling in our upcoming activities, so please give us your interest and love."
The title track of the fifth mini-album, "I'll Arrest You," is an electro pop song that delivers a warning to someone who has made them doubt themselves through habitual kindness. ILLIT will begin their music show activities starting with KBS2's "Music Bank" on the 30th.
