On the 11th, space systems specialist STEP-RAB announced that it was finally selected for the '2026 Startup City Creation Project' regional startup package under the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
STEP-RAB was chosen as a company in the aerospace sector within the 'Regional Growth-New Industry' track of the Daejeon Regional Startup Package, and will proceed with advancing the technology and commercialization of STEP-RING15, a low-launch-load satellite-rocket separation device for ultra-small satellites.
STEP-RING15 is a 15-inch standard specification separation device that connects ultra-small satellites weighing less than 300 kg to launch vehicles and separates them at the target orbit. STEP-RAB plans to combine its independently developed separation mechanism with launch-load reduction technology to minimize vibration and shock transmitted to the satellite during launch.
STEP-RAB possesses both the capability to develop satellites directly as a system integrator and expertise in space mechanisms. The company explains that it can design and develop interfaces connecting and separating satellites from launch vehicles by understanding satellite structure, mass, vibration characteristics, and launch environments.
Previously, STEP-RAB independently developed the STEP-POD, a cube satellite ejection tube with launch-vibration reduction capabilities. This product was applied to the company's own 16U cube satellite 'DaejeonSAT-1' and is currently preparing for space flight verification during the fifth Nuri rocket launch.
Through this project, STEP-RAB aims to expand its product lineup to include STEP-RING15, positioning itself as a 'space mechanism-based ultra-small satellite system company' that combines space mechanism technologies—such as holding, releasing, deploying, and moving satellites—with ultra-small satellite system development capabilities.
Oh Hyun-woong, CEO of STEP-RAB, stated, "By applying STEP-RAB's launch-load reduction technology to STEP-RING15, we will secure differentiated technological competitiveness compared to existing satellite separation devices. Based on this, we will introduce competitively viable satellite separation devices in the global market and lead related technologies."
