Last month, Tesla sold the highest number of imported vehicles in Korea at 12,372 units, bringing it within sight of breaking through the milestone of "100,000 annual sales" this year.
According to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA) on the 6th, new registered imported passenger vehicles by brand in September were recorded as follows: Tesla with 12,372 units, BMW with 6,066 units, and Mercedes-Benz with 5,477 units. The total number of newly registered imported passenger vehicles last month was 34,904, of which more than one-third were Tesla models.
Tesla has sold over 10,000 units domestically every month this year, excluding January and February, reaching a cumulative total of 89,148 units from January to September. Its annual domestic sales volume is expected to exceed 100,000 units for the first time this year. This trend contrasts with Tesla's sluggish sales in the global market recently. According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and others, Tesla delivered 486,532 units in the third quarter of this year, a 2% decrease compared to the same period last year.
The best-selling models in September were the Model Y L (8,690 units), Model Y Premium (2,467 units), and Mercedes-Benz E 200 (2,133 units), with Tesla occupying both the first and second places.
In terms of new registered imported passenger vehicles by brand last month, BYD (2,614 units) took fourth place, followed by Volvo (1,414 units) in fifth. Following them were Lexus (1,064 units), Toyota (971 units), Audi (900 units), Porsche (877 units), and Polestar (769 units).
KAIDA Vice Chairman Jung Yoon-young stated, "New registrations of imported passenger vehicles in September increased compared to the previous month, driven by inventory securing for some brands, the launch of various new cars, and aggressive marketing."
