Deputy Prime Minister Bae Kyung-hoon emphasized the critical golden time for building AI Data Centers (AIDCs), stating that the government will provide comprehensive support not only for technology development but also for securing power and water resources. The plan aims to nurture AIDCs as core infrastructure for the AI revolution, thereby enhancing South Korea's AI competitiveness.
Speaking at the 'AIDC Alliance' launch ceremony in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 29th, Deputy Prime Minister Bae said, "The most important step at the beginning of the AI revolution is building AI data centers that serve as semiconductor and AI infrastructure." He added, "We are steadily moving toward our goals as planned, without any delays."
He further stressed, "We are not merely securing GPUs; we are also nurturing domestic AI chips known as NPUs (Neural Processing Units)." He continued, "Based on full-stack AI competitiveness encompassing infrastructure, models, services, and platforms, we will transform AI data centers into 'token factories' and establish South Korea as a nation that exports intelligent tokens to the world."
Deputy Prime Minister Bae also noted that global big tech companies are closely watching South Korea's AI strategy. He stated, "Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said there is no AI revolution without South Korea, and Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, remarked that this is a golden era for the country." He added, "We look forward to creating this golden era together with companies participating in the AIDC Alliance."
He reiterated the government's commitment to support. Deputy Prime Minister Bae explained, "The government will not limit its role to simply expediting permits and licenses. We will actively support companies in developing world-class AI technologies and ensure that issues related to power and water are addressed with government-level attention and backing."
Deputy Prime Minister Bae declared, "South Korea has now fully entered the era of an AI Daejeon." He warned, "If we miss the next three to five years—the golden time—we risk losing our standing as a digital powerhouse. The government pledges to spare no effort in supporting companies in building the foundation for the AI revolution."
