Huawei Korea invited university students from South Korea and Japan to China to conduct ICT (information and communications technology) training on AI (artificial intelligence) and 5G. In South Korea, nine students from Ajou University, Hanyang University, and Yonsei University participated, visiting Huawei's R&D facilities and exchanging ideas with local students.
Huawei Korea announced on the 1st that it held the global ICT talent development program 'Seeds for the Future 2026' in Dongguan and Shenzhen, China, from the 23rd to the 30th of last month.
Nine university students from South Korea participated in this program: five from Ajou University, two from Hanyang University, and two from Yonsei University. In Japan, five students from the University of Tokyo, Waseda University, and Keio University joined, making a total of 14 Korean and Japanese university students who underwent eight days of training and field studies together.
Participants completed theoretical training on ICT topics including AI, 5G, and digital power before visiting Huawei's R&D sites and technology exhibition spaces. They engaged in Q&A sessions with research personnel and observed how AI and 5G technologies are implemented in actual equipment, systems, and services. They also visited local high-tech companies to examine the process of technology commercialization and the industrial ecosystem.
A roundtable discussion was held where Korean and Japanese students jointly discussed global technological issues. Participants formed teams mixing students from both countries and shared their perspectives on technological challenges based on their respective majors and national viewpoints. A program for interaction with local university students was also organized.
Kim Jong-hoon, a student from Ajou University who participated in the program, said, "It was a great opportunity to learn why 5G technology is important for the future and what role Huawei plays in this field." Jeon Hyeon-ji, a student from Yonsei University, added, "By studying advanced ICT topics and exchanging opinions, I learned that even with the same technology, perspectives can differ."
Seeds for the Future is a global corporate social responsibility (CSR) program launched by Huawei in Thailand in 2008. To date, it has collaborated with over 500 universities and educational institutions across 143 countries and regions, with cumulative participants reaching approximately 19,800. Since 2021, the program has also operated the global competition 'Tech for Good,' which proposes solutions to social problems using technology.
Huawei Korea operates university-focused programs in South Korea including 'Huawei ICT Academy,' 'Huawei ICT Competition,' and 'Seeds for the Future.' It has also conducted industry-academia collaborations with Seoul National University, Hanyang University, Ewha Womans University, Dongguk University, and others. Approximately 7,000 domestic talents have participated in these programs to date.
A Huawei Korea official stated, "We plan to continue collaborating with domestic universities by linking education, competitions, and overseas field programs." The official added, "It is noteworthy that the talent development program of a Chinese ICT company may evolve beyond simple training into a channel for expanding long-term connections with Korean universities and students."
