The commission is currently verifying factual details regarding the scale and categories of sensitive personal information provided by Google to external website operators, as well as the duration of such provision. It also plans to closely examine whether Google continuously provided deletion requests to external website operators, and whether there were any human errors or system failures involved.
Furthermore, the commission seeks to focus its review on whether Google had a lawful basis for processing personal information when sharing it with third-party website operators, and whether consent procedures were properly followed during the transmission of sensitive information, in order to determine potential violations of the Personal Information Protection Act.
This incident involves sensitive information related to victims of digital sexual crimes, raising serious concerns about secondary victimization. In response, the commission plans to conduct an intensive investigation into the entire flow of personal information processing between Google and external website operators. Additionally, if any matters requiring urgent deletion or blocking are identified during the investigation, it will immediately demand corrective measures to prevent further spread of harm.
