Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, was spotted using Samsung Electronics' latest foldable phone Galaxy Z Fold8. With reports confirming that Lee Jae-yong, chairman of Samsung Electronics, previously gifted Huang the previous model Galaxy Z Fold7, attention is now focused on whether Lee has once again provided him with the latest product.
On Monday (local time), while attending the "All-In Summit" in Los Angeles, U.S., Huang received a call from U.S. President Donald Trump. After unfolding his smartphone and switching to speakerphone, Huang showed the screen to attendees, where the caller ID clearly displayed President Trump.
What drew attention was the smartphone used by CEO Huang. The device he held open was Samsung Electronics' latest foldable phone, Galaxy Z Fold8, unveiled in July. It was previously noted that during President Trump's visit to China in May, Huang was also seen using the Galaxy Z Fold7, drawing attention from IT media outlets such as SamMobile.
According to NVIDIA, the smartphone Huang had used prior to this was a gift from Lee. However, the source of the newly spotted Galaxy Z Fold8 remains unconfirmed.
On July 24, at the "AI Summit" held in San Francisco, Huang met with Lee to discuss AI semiconductors and supply chain cooperation. With Huang now being seen using the latest Galaxy Z Fold8 just two months after their meeting, questions have arisen as to whether Lee gifted him this device as well.
The occasion for revealing Huang's smartphone was a surprise call from President Trump. President Trump dismissed concerns about AI risks, stating, "Robots will not take over the world, and AI will not dominate the world either. All of this is a hoax." He further emphasized that "AI is bigger than the internet" and stressed that the U.S. must not retreat in its competition with China over AI. Huang responded, "That's correct. We won't allow it to happen."
A meeting between Lee and Huang is expected soon. It is reported that Lee, along with SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won, will attend the Korea Society Annual Gala in New York, USA on Sept. 28 (local time), where they will meet with Huang, this year's recipient of the Van Fleet Award.
This marks the first time all three have met publicly since their gathering at the AI Summit in San Francisco last July. As Samsung Electronics and NVIDIA expand cooperation in AI semiconductor fields such as HBM (high-bandwidth memory), the successive meetings between Lee (Chairman) and CEO Huang are drawing significant attention.
