SK Telecom showcased its defense AX (AI Transformation) technologies at the '2026 Ground Forces Festival.'
On the 6th, SKT announced that it participated as the only private enterprise in the '2026 Ground Forces Festival,' which was held from the 1st to the 5th on the runway at Gyeryongdae Air Base in Gyeryong City, Chungnam Province. The Ground Forces Festival, hosted by the Army Headquarters, is a representative military cultural festival where general visitors can directly experience the present and future of the Army as it evolves based on advanced science and technology.
During the event, SKT participated in the Policy Promotion Pavilion and exhibited and demonstrated technologies and services applicable to actual defense fields under the brand 'T Military,' including △AI Staff Officer (AI Operational Support System) and △low-orbit satellite-based communication systems and security technologies.
The technology SKT focused on showcasing at this event was the 'AI Staff Officer.'
The 'AI Staff Officer' is a system that supports commanders' situational awareness and tactical judgments by utilizing △a data platform connecting various data held by the military, △an ontology that structures the meaning and relationships between data, and △digital twins that replicate actual battlefield environments in virtual space.
In future battlefields, massive amounts of data generated not only from troops and equipment but also from drones, robots, and sensors must be analyzed and utilized rapidly. SKT stated that the 'AI Staff Officer' organically connects and analyzes various battlefield data and provides necessary information in a timely manner, supporting commanders to make decisions more swiftly and accurately.
In particular, the exhibition allowed visitors and military officials to directly observe the process from data collection and analysis to the implementation of battlefield situations using digital twins and decision-making support.
SKT showcased various technologies, including low-orbit satellite-based communication systems, quantum cryptography, and stealth Wi-Fi, to support AI-based future combat systems.
Low-orbit satellites can establish communication networks even in environments where ground communication infrastructure is difficult to use, thereby enhancing connectivity on future battlefields. SKT added security technologies such as quantum cryptography and stealth Wi-Fi to enable stable and secure communications on the battlefield. In a future combat system where various forces such as AI, drones, and robots exchange data in real time, seamless networks and high-level security are crucial.
Through this exhibition, SKT presented a next-generation battlefield communication system encompassing satellite, wired/wireless, network, and security technologies, demonstrating its technical capabilities to support the realization of the Army's future combat system, 'Army TIGER+.'
For this exhibition, SKT collaborated with various partners, including SK Tellink, TechTree Innovation, Enhance, Mercury, KCS, and Pablo Aviation. By combining technologies from each field into forms applicable to actual operational systems, the company emphasized the feasibility of on-site application and scalability of defense AX technologies.
Kim Goo-young, Head of SKT's Enterprise Division, stated, "In future battlefields, AI that rapidly analyzes massive amounts of information to support decision-making, along with stable and secure communication infrastructure backing it up, will become increasingly important." He added, "SKT will develop its AI and communication technologies into solutions optimized for defense fields, actively expand the defense AX business, and lead innovation in South Korea's future national defense."
