LG CNS has completed the construction of a 30MW-class AI data center in Jakarta, Indonesia. This marks the first instance of a domestic company directly building an AI data center overseas for a foreign client.

On the 2nd, LG CNS announced that it had also secured customers for the entire capacity of the data center before its completion. The project was commissioned by KMG, a joint venture between Indonesia's Sinar Mas Group and Korea Investment Real Estate Management. LG CNS applied its design, construction, and operation (DBO) capabilities accumulated domestically.

The data center was designed to accommodate high-performance computing environments utilizing next-generation GPUs. To handle high-heat AI servers, it adopted a hybrid cooling structure that combines air cooling and liquid cooling.

Air cooling systems were applied in this first phase. In subsequent phases, liquid cooling systems capable of directly controlling heat generated by GPUs will be added.

A power system supporting high-density environments of over 300kW per rack was also built. This is approximately 60 times the power required for standard data center racks. The design takes into account AI infrastructure that mounts multiple GPUs in a single rack. The power infrastructure has been duplicated. Even if the main power supply is interrupted, backup power allows the data center to operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The "One LG" approach, combining technologies from LG Group affiliates, was also applied. LG CNS took charge of the entire DBO, integrating power, cooling, and energy infrastructure by combining LG Electronics' air conditioning systems and LG Energy Solution's batteries, among others.

LG CNS is currently proceeding with design for subsequent phases. Upon completion of the entire project, the power capacity is expected to expand to 400MW. Using this project as a springboard, the company will also expand its efforts to capture the Asia-Pacific market. Target countries include Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Japan.

Domestically, LG CNS is expanding its data center business through colocation, DBO, pre-fabricated modular data centers, GPU subscription services (GPUaaS), and liquid cooling. The company plans to broaden its scope in the future to include an "AI Factory" business that combines AI platforms and services.

Hyun Shin-kyun, President of LG CNS, stated, "The completion of the Indonesia AI data center is a result that demonstrates our business competitiveness in the global market by providing capabilities accumulated domestically to overseas clients." He added, "We will use this as a foothold to expand our AI data center and AI Factory businesses in global markets, including Asia-Pacific."
