Management and labor at Samsung Biologics will resume collective bargaining on the 3rd of next month. The union warned that it would launch phased strikes centered on indirect departments such as logistics and quality control (QC) if the current round of negotiations breaks down, pressuring the company side.
Park Jae-sung, chairman of the union, stated in a position paper on the 28th, "We will proceed with negotiations (with management) starting November 3," adding, "Assuming that negotiations may be extended, we have agreed to keep all schedules open for the relevant weeks."
It is reported that both sides held discussions during lunchtime on the day to discuss the process and direction of the negotiations.
Chairman Park clearly stated his position that the next round of negotiations would be designated as a "final round negotiation," saying, "I have requested management to approach the negotiations with the understanding that if they break down, there will be no further dialogue."
He added, "If final breakdown occurs, we will proceed to strikes in phases," noting, "Management has stated its position of reporting this content to executives for decision-making."
The union plans to establish a strike fund of 200,000 won per member, totaling approximately 800 million won, to compensate for wage losses among strike participants.
The fund was established based on a three-week strike period, and the union has left open the possibility of collecting an additional 100,000 won depending on the labor dispute situation, potentially expanding the fund size up to 1.2 billion won.
The Samsung Biologics side stated, "We plan to faithfully engage in the negotiations to be conducted going forward."
