The Philseung Wonderdogs, led by head coach Kim Yeon-kyoung, secured a dramatic comeback victory against Shujitsu High School, the strongest high school team in Japan.
In an episode of MBC's variety show "Rookie Coach Kim Yeon-kyoung 2" broadcast on the 25th, a match between the Wonderdogs and Shujitsu High School was held.
On this day, the Wonderdogs committed consecutive errors, including service faults, and lost the first and second sets. Trailing 0-2 in the set score, head coach Kim Yeon-kyoung pointed out the players' performance during a timeout in the third set. He expressed his disappointment, saying, "Why do you keep making mistakes? A chance ball came up."
Hwang Yeon-ju also delivered harsh words to the players. He emphasized, "You don't cherish the ball enough. Let's stop trying to take all the responsibility myself," and "Why are you trying to bear that alone and make decisions by yourself? It's not my team, it's our team."
Kim Yeon-kyoung encouraged the dejected players, aiming for a turnaround in momentum. He cheered them on, saying, "There is no need to be nervous. You can miss one. Let's just avoid the obvious mistakes." He then repeatedly shouted, "You can do it, you can do it, you can do it," injecting energy into the players.
Subsequently, after a tenacious battle, the Wonderdogs defeated Shujitsu High School with a set score of 3-2, achieving a comeback victory. In response, head coach Kim Yeon-kyoung said, "I felt like I had seen the endgame to such an extent that I wondered if I had ever felt this kind of tension since retiring," and added, "It seems I did everything I could."
He then laughed and said, "We won. That's good. Ah, it's exhausting. My lifespan is shortened," adding, "If they say there will be a Season 3, I will refuse. Let's not forget the feelings we have now. Let's not be fooled anymore," which drew laughter.
Kim Yeon-kyoung also spoke about the emotion that sports provide. He shared, "I don't know. It is a bit difficult to express in words. This is probably why people watch sports," and continued, "Isn't it because there is no script? The two teams naturally do their best in the game, and one team wins by a hair's breadth."
