TVXQ's Choi Kang-chang-min revealed why he found Kim Hee-cheol irritating during his time as a trainee at SM Entertainment. Although Choi was a senior who had joined SM first, he expressed his frustration that Kim Hee-cheol immediately dismantled the established seniority system upon arriving as a trainee, eliciting laughter.
In episode 517 of SBS' "My Unpretty Little Baby," broadcast on the 1st, TVXQ's Choi Kang-chang-min appeared as a special MC and showcased his sharp wit.
When Choi Kang-chang-min appeared, Kim Hee-cheol's mother expressed her joy at seeing him while also failing to hide her disappointment regarding her son.
Kim Hee-cheol's mother mentioned the contrasting recent lives of the two, saying, "Chang-min is married and has a child in kindergarten, but my son is the older brother yet hasn't even been able to get married."
In response, Choi Kang-chang-min quipped, "Life can be so divided even within the same company," drawing laughter.
Subsequently, Seo Jang-hoon brought up the story that Choi Kang-chang-min had found Kim Hee-cheol most irritating during his trainee days.
Choi Kang-chang-min then clarified a misunderstanding regarding the seniority relationship between the two.
Choi stated, "As you introduced me as 'trainee junior Chang-min' to Kim Hee-cheol, everyone has a misconception," adding, "I am the senior of Hee-cheol hyung."
He further emphasized that he had joined SM Entertainment before Kim Hee-cheol by stating, "I was the one who entered first."
Choi Kang-chang-min recalled that he had strictly adhered to the seniority hierarchy during his trainee period.
Choi revealed, "As a junior, I always greeted my senior trainees properly and set up meals for them with great respect."
However, an unexpected situation arose when Kim Hee-cheol joined as a trainee.
Choi recalled the time by saying, "Then, Hee-cheol hyung came in as a trainee."
He then exposed that despite him clearly being the one who arrived first, he would be setting up meals while Kim Hee-cheol would walk in arm-in-arm with other senior trainees.
Choi conveyed his feelings of grievance by saying, "Of course, I understand he is an older hyung than me, but I was clearly taught that the seniority relationship was definite."
He added, laughing, that Hee-cheol hyung suddenly appeared and destroyed the hierarchy.
Choi Kang-chang-min candidly admitted, "It was so irritating," while acknowledging Kim Hee-cheol's exceptional sociability.
Choi revealed that he marveled at Kim Hee-cheol's social skills, stating, "That is when I learned that being cocky is also a talent."
Shin Dong-yeop, who was listening, also empathized with Kim Hee-cheol's personality.
Shin added, laughing, "That's right. (Kim Hee-cheol) charms people and turns them into his side, making them like him."
