At its "Q3 2026 Earnings Announcement" held on Thursday, Samsung Electronics said, "The tight supply and demand situation for memory is expected to continue through 2028."
The company said, "Based on strong performance in 2026, overall CAPEX (capital expenditure) next year is estimated to increase significantly. However, due to various factors, it is considered difficult for this to translate into increased bit production by 2028."
It added, "First, a large proportion of the expected CAPEX increase will be spent on securing new space. Due to rising construction costs per unit of space compared to the past, there is a tendency for the CAPEX scale to appear inflated. Considering the time required from new construction to wafer production, it is difficult for the 2027 CAPEX increase to make a substantial contribution to production in 2028."
The company emphasized, "In addition, physical supply constraints resulting from an increased ratio of production capacity shifted to HBM and general-purpose DRAM appear unavoidable."
