SK Telecom is strengthening its "AI Trust Management" to enhance the safety of AI technology and build trust. As part of this effort, the company said Monday that it has published an "AI Governance Report" summarizing AI governance principles, accountability systems, specific execution plans, and key achievements.

SKT has continuously pursued AI trust management by establishing human-centric "AI Pursuit Values" in 2021 and disclosing its AI governance principles, "T.H.E. AI," in March 2024. In particular, the company has been concretizing execution systems for application in actual services and workplace environments.

This report includes SKT's experiences and achievements in practicing AI governance. It also presents directions for AI governance that proactively respond to changing environments, such as providing management guidelines for AI agents that autonomously make judgments and perform tasks.

SKT has been advancing an integrated management system linking personal information protection with AI governance. Under a framework where the CPO (Chief Privacy Officer) oversees this process, the company treats the careful use of customer data and privacy protection as core review criteria for AI governance.

The company applies the "Privacy by Design" principle to its business processes, designing personal information protection from the initial planning stage of customer services, and systematically checks and manages risks throughout the entire lifecycle of AI services.

Additionally, SKT is pursuing safe and responsible AI utilization by applying consistent management standards across the development, testing, operation, and termination processes of AI agents used in internal business operations.

To objectively verify its AI trust management capabilities, SKT obtained international standard certification for its internal AI agent management system this month. This was based on an advanced AI governance framework tailored to changing scopes of AI utilization and organizational environments.

In this report, SKT shares its accumulated experience in operating AI governance and key achievements, and plans to continuously advance its execution systems in line with future changes in AI technology and the regulatory environment.

Cha Ho-beom, SKT's CPO, said, "The importance of AI governance is becoming even greater in the era of AI agents," adding, "We will continue to proactively respond to changing AI environments and strengthen our AI trust management."
