Broadcast personality Bae Sung-jae, formerly an announcer, revealed the story of how he introduced the couple Park Ji-sung and Kim Min-ji.
On the 31st of last month, a video titled "Asking Bae Sung-jae, a man obsessed with football from Cha Bum-kun to Park Ji-sung, openly" was released on Bae Ji-hyun's YouTube channel, which she hosts.
That day, regarding how he came to build a friendship with Park Ji-sung, Bae Sung-jae said, "Actually, we were not close at first," and added, "My father told me that since I was broadcasting Premier League matches, he would treat me to a meal and invited me to Suwon."
He continued, recalling, "In Suwon, my father treated us to meat, and we met for the first time and exchanged greetings. Then my father said, 'I need to get this guy married.'"
Bae Sung-jae revealed that he then proposed to Park Ji-sung's father, saying, "There is a nice young lady; would you be interested?" The person Bae Sung-jae introduced was former SBS announcer Kim Min-ji, who worked with him at the time.
Park Ji-sung and Kim Min-ji, who met through Bae Sung-jae's introduction, developed into a romantic relationship and married in 2014. Bae Sung-jae also served as the master of ceremonies at their wedding.
When Bae Ji-hyun mentioned commentator Jung Min-cheol, who connected her with Ryu Hyun-jin, saying, "Just like what commentator Jung Min-cheol did for us," Bae Sung-jae asked back, "What do you think of Commissioner Jung Min-cheol? Isn't he a benefactor?" He then joked that Park Ji-sung probably sees him as a benefactor as well, drawing laughter.
Bae Sung-jae also revealed an anecdote about receiving a suit as a token of gratitude for arranging the couple's wedding. He said, "They told me to get it made somewhere, and I waited to lose some weight before wearing it," adding, "But over the past 10 years, instead of losing weight, my body weight actually increased." He further added, "In the end, I finally got the suit tailored almost 10 years later."
