Trot singer Park Gyu-ri (47) revealed her experience of suffering from a brain hemorrhage in her early 30s.
On the episode of Channel A's 'Star Health Ranking No. 1' that aired on the 16th, Park Gyu-ri joined as a new panelist and was shown discussing health with MCs Ji Seok-jin, Lee Kyung-sil, and Pyeon Seung-yeop.
During a conversation on the broadcast focused on 'vascular health,' Park Gyu-ri began by saying, "I had no idea at all that I would suffer from a brain hemorrhage in my early 30s, so I was truly shocked."
She added, "As soon as I experienced a thunderous headache, the brain hemorrhage occurred. When I pressed and released my eyes with my hands, I couldn't see anything, and I was startled, thinking I might go blind." Recalling that time, she said, "After experiencing it firsthand, I realized how terrifying vascular diseases can be."
The broadcast also revealed MRI brain images taken when Park Gyu-ri was suffering from the brain hemorrhage.
Neurologist Lee Jong-yoon, upon seeing the images, diagnosed, "There is a clear blood clot lesion caused by acute bleeding in the occipital lobe area. It was a dangerous condition where blood vessels near the central nervous system and optic nerve ruptured, leading to vision loss."
Results from a detailed medical examination to confirm Park Gyu-ri's current vascular status were also released. The findings indicated that "the carotid arteries supplying blood flow to the brain are estimated to be narrowed by 62% on the left side and 53% on the right side."
The specialist stated, "It appears the narrowing of the blood vessels occurred gradually over a long period rather than through sudden changes, so no special abnormalities were found in the test results. However, it is necessary to manage inflammation through exercise and dietary improvements while undergoing appropriate treatment following detailed examinations."
Meanwhile, Park Gyu-ri debuted in 2014 with the song 'Love Arirang' and has released tracks such as 'Spoon Chopsticks,' 'I'm a Woman,' and 'You're Boom, I'm Clap.'
