The group Stray Kids has effectively boycotted the 69th Grammy Awards by deciding not to submit any works for consideration.
According to Billboard and BBC, among others, on the 2nd (all times local), JYP Entertainment, the agency representing Stray Kids, stated that "Stray Kids did not submit any works for the 69th Grammy Awards, which will be held next year."
The submission deadline for this year's Grammys was August 21. Works that were not formally submitted are excluded from candidate review and voting.
JYP Entertainment did not disclose specific reasons. However, given that BTS previously announced it would not submit works for these Grammy Awards, interpretations have emerged that Stray Kids is also "boycotting" the newly established "Best Asian Pop Music Performance" category at the Grammys.
The category targets contemporary popular music from the Asian market, including K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop. Submitted songs must use one or more Asian languages in a significant proportion. Songs composed entirely in English are excluded from eligibility.
Previously, BTS members expressed their intention to refuse submission, stating, "We hope that music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being categorized by region or language."
The Recording Academy, which oversees the Grammys, decided to maintain the newly established category after discussions with figures in the Asian music industry. The 69th Grammy Awards will be held on February 7, 2027, in Los Angeles, United States.
