The story of a wife who was subjected to physical abuse, water torture, and forced sexual relations by her husband has been revealed.
On the episode broadcast on the 5th, MBC's "Oh Eun-young Report: Marriage Hell" featured a couple who have been living together and running a beef bone soup restaurant for seven years despite being divorced.
The wife revealed that she suffered from her husband's violence during their marriage. She said, "Even though we worked side by side 24 hours a day, my husband would drink, get drunk, and use violence," adding, "I hated seeing and hearing it, so if I left work early, I had to come home and be beaten."
The husband reportedly threw objects or kicked his wife. The wife stated that her husband stepped on her while she was sleeping, breaking her rib and requiring hospitalization for treatment, and that she once fainted from the abuse.
The wife recalled, "I was beaten until I lost consciousness. After I came to, I called my brother from my parents' home, and he came over immediately in the middle of the night to take me away." It was reported that even after fleeing to her parents' home, the husband showed up at a place where their young children were present, carrying a weapon and threatening them.
The wife also said she had been subjected to water torture while returning home to avoid her husband's drunken rants. "As soon as I got there, he grabbed me and threw me into the water. He tried to kill me by putting me in the water," she said.
She revealed that she was also forced into unwanted sexual relations. The wife said, "Even when I told him I didn't want to or that we shouldn't do it, he insisted that he had to," adding, "I just walk past it as if it never happened, but it doesn't fade from memory."
In particular, the husband forced sexual relations even after his wife was discharged following uterine fibroid surgery in 2009. The wife said, "I was discharged a week after the surgery and my body had not yet recovered. Yet my husband still tried to force himself on me," adding, "Am I an animal or what? I cried bitterly."
She continued, "I told him several times that I was still in pain and we shouldn't do it, but he completely ignored me," revealing that she had not had sexual relations with her husband since the surgery.
The husband acknowledged forcing sexual relations but said, "If I don't force it, I have to wait indefinitely." He added, "After one argument, she didn't even come near me."
When Jang Dong-min asked if he was not aware that his wife's body had not recovered after the surgery, the husband replied, "It was the desire of a young man."
Regarding the physical abuse, the husband said, "My wife says she was abused, but she doesn't say why it happened; she only talks about what she endured," adding, "Don't we need to know the cause?" He claimed that he became dissatisfied because his wife participated in a mountain climbing club and came home late despite their tight financial situation.
Psychiatrist Oh Eun-yeong (Dr.) criticized the husband, saying, "Even so, this is torture and extremely sadistic violence. And it is an attempted murder."
She continued, "He should think that hitting is not allowed, but the husband is confident. He believes he has every right," pointing out, "At the very least, shouldn't he fulfill his duty as a human being based on the bond of having shared 40 years together?"
