Hwang Chung-won (36), a CrossFit athlete and cast member of "Steel Troops," revealed that he was hospitalized with an acute myocardial infarction.
On Wednesday, Hwang shared on his social media that after being rushed to the emergency room due to an acute myocardial infarction, he is currently awaiting a second procedure.
He said, "Thankfully, thanks to my wife's devoted care and the concern and worry of many people, I am doing well."
He explained his current condition, saying, "The blood clot blocking the coronary artery was larger and harder than expected, so it could not be completely removed during the first procedure, and I am now waiting for a second one." He added, "To be honest, I am a little scared, but it will probably turn out fine."
Hwang recounted the situation that led him to the hospital emergency room on the night of the 31st of last month.
He recalled when he first felt the symptoms: "At 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, the day of the competition. During the first match, without knowing anything was wrong, I thought, 'Why is it so hard to breathe?' While using the machine, I just thought, 'Ah, I'm just feeling a bit stuffy.'"
He continued, "From the second match at 4 p.m., I really felt extremely stuffy. After returning home in Seoul, it was 10 p.m. Eventually, I was transported by ambulance to the emergency room and then transferred to the critical care unit, where I was diagnosed with an acute myocardial infarction." He urged, "If you feel even slightly unwell, please make sure to go to the hospital without fail."
Comedian Lee Sun-min, upon hearing the news, sent words of support, saying, "It is a great relief. Chung-won, let's overcome this beautifully. Fighting!"
Hwang Chung-won, a CrossFit athlete, gained recognition after appearing on the Channel A and ENA variety show "Steel Troops" in 2021, and has since appeared in programs such as "King of Ssireum" and "Physical: 100 - Underground."
