On the 19th, humanoid robot company Roblox announced that it will supply nine units of its self-developed bipedal humanoid robot 'IGRIS-C' to nine institutional investors, including companies in the semiconductor, automotive, and logistics sectors.
This supply is part of the 'Humanoid Robot Demonstration Support Project' organized by the Korea Robotics Industry Promotion Agency. The project aims to collect operational data from humanoids in actual manufacturing and service sites and develop and verify AI (artificial intelligence) behavior models based on this data. A total of 5 billion won will be invested this year, with up to 5 billion won provided per project.
Each project is led by a humanoid robot manufacturer or a demand-side company, with consortiums formed involving demand companies, AI firms, universities, and research institutes. A total of 10 projects were selected, and Roblox's IGRIS-C was adopted as the demonstration robot in three of them. According to Roblox, this marks the highest number of robots supplied by any robot provider participating in the project.
Three units of IGRIS-C will be supplied per project, totaling nine units. The robots are scheduled to be deployed in actual industrial sites such as semiconductor cleanrooms, automotive manufacturing plants, and fresh food cold-chain logistics centers for demonstration purposes.
All nine units supplied this time are under paid contracts. As a result, the cumulative sales volume of IGRIS-C has increased from 9 to 18 units. To date, Roblox has produced a total of 36 IGRIS-C robots; the remaining 18 units (excluding those sold) are being utilized for internal research and development, technology demonstrations, and customer testing.
IGRIS-C is a bipedal humanoid robot developed and manufactured by Roblox. Standing at 154 cm tall and weighing 56 kg, it is designed to navigate narrow and complex spaces such as laboratories, factories, and logistics warehouses. It can maintain balance while moving on slopes and stairs and features collision detection and control functions that absorb external impacts for collaboration with workers, along with a head LED interface.
It also supports replaceable 'end-effectors (robot hands)' depending on the work environment. Options include the '5-finger humanoid hand' for multi-purpose tasks, the 'electromagnetic gripper' specialized for transporting metal parts, and the '1-degree-of-freedom gripper' designed to enhance stability when grasping objects.
Roblox has also developed its own AI models and software embedded in the robots. These include whole-body and locomotion control algorithms based on reinforcement learning, remote control devices for precision manipulation, mobile apps, and an AI data labeling platform. Alongside robot supply, Roblox plans to provide technical support and operation and training programs.
Noh Seung-jun, CEO of Roblox, stated, "Creating tangible results in actual industrial sites is the most important competitive advantage," adding, "Through continuous production expansion and stable supply, we will lead the commercialization of Korea's humanoid robot industry."
