Makemake, which operates the beauty tech brand 'SOOO', announced on the 23rd that it has secured a pre-Series A investment totaling 3 billion won.
Signate, Amorepacific, and Ignite XL participated as new investors in this round. Bluepoint Partners, the existing seed investor and deep-tech accelerator, also joined the follow-on investment. The corporate valuation remains undisclosed.
Makemake is a beauty tech startup that uses technology to solve hair and skin problems caused by water. Focusing on discomfort to hair and skin from residual chlorine left after swimming, it launched the swim care brand SOOO.
Its key feature lies in applying its proprietary water quality response technology and patented materials to products. Starting with residual chlorine in swimming pool water, it is expanding the scope of its technology applications to address various hair and skin issues arising from diverse water environments such as hard water and metal ions. Recently, it also expanded its product lineup by launching the scalp care line 'Scalpture'.
The company is also actively advancing into overseas markets. It exported 50,000 units in South America, where it began exports for the first time this year, and signed a distribution agreement with global beauty distributor SilcaTwo. Previously, it won the grand prize in the hair care category at 'Cosmoprof Asia 2025', one of the world's top three beauty expos, and also received an award at 'Shanghai K-Beauty Glow Week'.
Makemake plans to use the investment funds for advancing core materials and product technologies and expanding into overseas markets such as North America. Based on the technology acquired in swim care, it will also expand its business scope into scalp and hair care and beauty tech devices.
Kwak Hyo-seop Ma Ke-ma-ke (CEO) stated, "This investment is significant not just for raising funds but for securing strategic partners who will grow SOOO globally together." He added, "Based on the industry expertise and global networks held by each investor, we will grow into a global beauty tech company that solves various beauty problems caused by water through technology."
