
LG Innotek has launched efforts to secure core AI (artificial intelligence) talent capable of combining and analyzing autonomous driving sensor data. Following the announcement of the Yangsan camera module for Zoox, an Amazon autonomous driving subsidiary's robotaxi, the company aims to preempt the autonomous driving sensing solutions market by adding software (SW) capabilities and validation expertise.
According to industry sources on the 3rd, LG Innotek will recruit R&D personnel in the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) division for autonomous driving sensors during its second-half new graduate hiring program. The recruited staff will develop technologies that enable vehicles to perceive their surroundings by integrating information collected from cameras, LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), and radar systems.
The focus of this recruitment extends beyond improving individual sensor performance to securing technologies for combining and analyzing collected data. The job posting specifies key responsibilities including developing multimodal sensor fusion algorithms that integrate camera, LiDAR, and radar information; technologies to correct positional errors across different sensors; and AI technology development for recognizing and tracking people and vehicles.
This talent acquisition is notable as it follows LG Innotek's recent announcement of the Yangsan camera module for Zoox robotaxis. On the 27th of last month, LG Innotek began supplying the high-resolution camera module Yangsan for Zoox robotaxis. This marks the first time the company has provided a dedicated camera module for robotaxis to Zoox, with plans to supply products over the coming years.
LG Innotek is accelerating efforts to enhance sensor performance in actual driving environments alongside its expansion of Yangsan. Earlier this March, the company established strategic cooperation with Applied Intuition, a U.S.-based autonomous driving software firm. This collaboration aims to validate camera and sensor performance on roads using autonomous driving SW and test vehicles. Through external partnerships, LG Innotek plans to strengthen real-vehicle validation capabilities while simultaneously bolstering its R&D expertise through this recruitment drive.
LG Innotek's moves align with global trends in the autonomous driving components market. The company has entered a phase of expanding its technological scope from sensor hardware (HW) to include information processing and validation. Through these efforts, LG Innotek aims to grow its autonomous driving sensing solutions business revenue to 2 trillion won by 2030.
