Hanjin Group announced on the 8th that it has provided emergency relief supplies and supported the transport of government relief materials to areas in Nepal devastated by severe flooding. This effort aims to put into practice Hanjin Group's founding philosophy of "Transport for the Nation" (수송보국) and fulfill the corporate social responsibility of connecting the world through transportation and logistics.
First, Korean Air provided emergency relief supplies it personally prepared on this afternoon via flight KE695 departing from Incheon International Airport bound for Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. The relief supplies supported by Korean Air include 1,000 boxes of Hanjin Jeju Pure Water bottled water (1.5 liters x 12 PET bottles per box) and 1,000 blankets. The bottled water and blankets will be transported on two occasions: today and the 12th.
The affected areas locally are reported to be in a critical shortage of drinking water due to infrastructure collapse caused by severe flooding. The relief supplies are scheduled to be delivered not only to displaced residents but also to hospitals, rescue sites, and other necessary locations through the Nepalese government.
Earlier, on the 5th, Korean Air, part of Hanjin Group, and Hanjin itself leveraged synergies between group companies to urgently transport government relief materials. The government relief supplies consisted of approximately 10.5 tons of thermal blankets.
Considering the urgency of the situation, Korean Air temporarily suspended existing cargo reservations and prioritized filling the cargo hold of flights bound for Kathmandu with government relief materials before operating them. Hanjin, acting as the government's cargo forwarder, managed all aspects of the material transport process.
Going forward, Hanjin Group plans to continue fulfilling its corporate social responsibility by fully utilizing its characteristics as a global comprehensive logistics company. It will transport emergency relief supplies to disaster areas both domestically and internationally and sustain various win-win activities leveraging delivery and logistics infrastructure.
A Hanjin Group representative stated, "We offer our deepest condolences to the people of Nepal who have lost their daily lives due to sudden natural disasters, and we hope this support will be of some help."
