Three professional management vice chairmen from SK Group have joined SK hynix. This move is interpreted as an effort to strengthen SK hynix's global operations and external cooperation by placing executives with experience in the global market.
According to the electronics industry on the 18th, Yoo Jeong-jun, Vice Chairman of SK Group overseeing the Americas; Seo Jin-woo, Vice Chairman of SK Group overseeing China; and Lee Hyung-hee, Vice Chairman of SK Corp., joined SK hynix effective as of the 15th. This means three out of four professional management vice chairmen in SK Group, excluding the owner family, are now positioned at SK hynix.
These executives are evaluated as having extensive experience in overseas operations and managing major affiliates within the SK Group. Vice Chairman Yoo previously served as CEO of SK E&S and SK On, leading North American energy and battery businesses and supply chain development. Vice Chairman Seo has led the group's China business after serving as president of SK Telecom and CEO of SK Planet. Vice Chairman Lee also managed overall group affairs including external relations and communications after holding positions such as head of SK Telecom operations and CEO of SK Broadband.
This personnel change is seen as aligning with SK Group's strategy to position AI and semiconductors as future growth engines. It aims to support SK hynix's external activities by placing senior executives rich in overseas business experience and networks.
These vice chairmen have been conducting sequential one-on-one in-depth interviews with SK hynix executives since last month. Approximately 250 executives, excluding Director Kwak No-jeong (CEO) and outside directors, are reported to be the interview targets.
Such in-depth interviews covering all executives at SK hynix mark the first time since SK Group acquired the company in 2012 — a span of 14 years. At that time, Director Choi Tae-won (Chairman) personally met with executives to review business status and organizational conditions.
An industry source stated, "As Choi Tae-won (Chairman) develops AI and semiconductors as core growth engines, opportunities for SK hynix to interact or cooperate with global companies are increasing," adding, "It appears that management personnel equipped with overseas business experience and networks have been placed in appropriate positions."
