Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) announced on the 28th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation in the aerospace industry with the Mexican Aerospace Industry Association (FEMIA) and POSCO International.
This tripartite agreement was finalized following President Lee Jae-myung's state visit to Mexico. It aims to strengthen Mexico’s aerospace industry ecosystem and solidify strategic partnership between the two countries, aligning with "Plan Mexico," the national medium-to-long-term economic development strategy being promoted by the Mexican government.
Through this agreement, KAI plans to expand participation from local partners by leveraging its platforms and technologies in completed aircraft, civil aviation, and space sectors. Specifically, it will establish practical business models such as supply chain cooperation to drive Mexico’s aerospace industry growth and continuously expand business opportunities in the Central and South American markets.
In addition, KAI will build a diversified cooperation model based on its platforms—including fixed-wing aircraft, rotary-wing aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), satellites, MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul), and airframe structures—incorporating local production, technology collaboration, and supply chain localization. To achieve this, both parties will jointly explore and discuss necessary industrial and technical measures.
Under the agreement, FEMIA will promote exchanges with Mexico’s aerospace ecosystem, including industry stakeholders and public institutional investors, support the discovery of verified local partners, and provide localized policy information. FEMIA is a representative association of Mexico’s aerospace industry, boasting over 100 member companies. It plays a leading role in shaping government aerospace policies and expanding global supply chains.
POSCO International will leverage its global network to identify new business opportunities and explore financial cooperation, while supporting local companies discovered through these efforts to integrate into KAI’s aerospace manufacturing supply chain.
Kim Jong-chul, CEO of KAI, stated, "This collaboration will contribute to the successful implementation of Mexico’s national strategic industrial policy, 'Plan Mexico,' and mark a significant turning point for both nations to establish themselves as core partners in the aerospace industry." He emphasized, "Building on cooperation with Mexico, we will accelerate the entry of FA-50 aircraft into Central America and expand export markets to North and South America in the future."
