It was found that if one had invested 100 million won ten years ago, NVIDIA stock would currently yield the highest profit. As the AI (artificial intelligence) boom surged demand for GPUs (graphics processing units), it surpassed Bitcoin's rate of increase.
According to the financial investment industry on the 26th, NVIDIA shares, listed on the U.S. NASDAQ in 1999, rose from $1.58 on September 1, 2016, to $217.44 on the first of this month. An investment of 100 million won at that time would now be valued at approximately 13.8 billion won. This is a simple comparison that does not reflect exchange rate fluctuations, taxes, or dividends.
In 2016, NVIDIA was a semiconductor company whose main product was GPUs for gaming, but as the era of generative AI opened, it established itself as a company that virtually monopolized the supply of core infrastructure for AI data centers. Bitcoin also rose significantly during the same period, but not to the extent of NVIDIA. Bitcoin increased from $572.3 per unit on September 1, 2016, to $77,403 on September 1 this year, a rise of approximately 135 times. An investment of 100 million won ten years ago would have grown to about 13.5 billion won.

Domestic semiconductor companies also rode the AI wave. SK Hynix shares jumped from 36,100 won on September 1, 2016, to 1.693 million won on September 1 this year, an increase of approximately 47 times. An investment of 100 million won would have become about 4.7 billion won. Samsung Electronics also rose from 31,740 won to 261,000 won during the same period, an increase of approximately 8.2 times. An investment of 100 million won grew to about 800 million won.
The rise in U.S. tech stocks was also significant. Tesla, which manufactures autonomous vehicles, rose from $14.13 to $356.09, an increase of approximately 25 times. Apple, which makes iPhones, rose from $26.68 to $325.13, an increase of approximately 12 times. An investment of 100 million won would have become about 2.5 billion won and 1.2 billion won, respectively.
Safe-haven assets like gold also saw a significant increase in value over the past decade. According to Korea Exchange, domestic gold prices rose from 47,310 won per gram on September 1, 2016, to 196,280 won per gram on the first of this month, an increase of approximately 4.1 times. If one had purchased 100 million won worth of gold, its current value would be about 400 million won.
Compared to AI technology stocks, the rise in Gangnam apartments during the same period was modest. The actual transaction price per square meter for Seoul Gangnam-gu Daechi-dong Eomma Apartments, a representative redevelopment complex in Gangnam real estate, rose from approximately 16 million won per square meter in September 2016 to about 46 million won this month, an increase of approximately 2.9 times. Simply converted, the asset value of 100 million won ten years ago would now be about 290 million won.
These figures are a simple comparison of prices on September 1, 2016, and September 1, 2026, for each asset. Exchange rates, taxes, transaction costs, dividends, and rental income were not reflected. Furthermore, unlike stocks or Bitcoin, real estate cannot be arbitrarily divided into 100 million won portions for purchase, so there may be differences from actual investment returns.
