The government has begun construction on Phase 1 of the 'Songpa ICT Security Cluster' to be developed in Seoul's Songpa District. With an investment of 60.9 billion won, a new building for the Radio and Communications Agency and radio testing facilities will be constructed, with Phase 1 scheduled for completion by the first half of 2029.
The Ministry of Science and ICT and Korea Asset Management Corporation announced on the 25th that they held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Phase 1 Project of the Songpa ICT Security Cluster' at the site of the Radio and Communications Agency in Seoul's Songpa District. The ceremony was attended by approximately 150 people, including Ryu Je-myung, Second Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT; Song Gi-ho, Third Deputy Director of the National Security Office; Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa District; and Jung Jeong-hoon, President of Korea Asset Management Corporation.
The Songpa ICT Security Cluster is a project to comprehensively develop the approximately 50,000-square-meter site of the Radio and Communications Agency, concentrating institutional investors related to radio and information security, private office facilities, commercial facilities, and residential facilities. The overall development will proceed in three phases.
The Phase 1 project that has now broken ground is being entrusted to Korea Asset Management Corporation, which will invest 60.9 billion won from the state-owned property management fund. A new building for the Radio and Communications Agency and a radio testing facility called 'Radio Playground' will be constructed, covering a total floor area of 13,560 square meters with two basement levels and seven above-ground floors. The target completion date is the first half of 2029.
The Radio Playground is a facility where small and medium-sized venture companies can freely test and verify products utilizing radio waves. This will establish infrastructure to support corporate product development and validation alongside the Radio and Communications Agency's radio management functions.
Phases 2 and 3 will be implemented after Phase 1 is completed. In Phase 2, public office facilities will be built to house institutional investors related to radio and information security, such as the Korea Internet & Security Agency's Cyber Attack Response Center and the Korea Radio Promotion Association's Radio Broadcasting and Telecommunications Education Institute. In Phase 3, general office facilities and commercial and residential facilities are planned to be developed.
Ryu (Vice Minister) stated, "This groundbreaking marks the first step toward transforming the historic site where our country has long managed its radio resources into a new hub for Korea's ICT security." He added, "We will spare no administrative or financial support to enable a leap forward in national ICT security capabilities and establish a new growth engine for the digital industry."
