
On the 27th, Naver Cloud announced that it has formed a joint consortium with LG CNS (LG CNS) to participate in the "Specialized AI Foundation Model Development (Cybersecurity Sector)" project promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Information Society Development Institute (NIPA).
The Naver Cloud-LG CNS consortium plans to develop models optimized for domestic security environments based on its own full-stack technical capabilities covering everything from AI models, infrastructure, security, to data, under the theme of "Developing an AI Foundation Model for Internalizing National Cybersecurity Capabilities."
Both companies will focus on developing and internalizing models specialized in the security domain through this project, building on their proprietary foundation model development and commercialization experience. In particular, Naver Cloud highlights its expertise in having directly specialized and commercially deployed and operated foundation models in "closed network/on-premises" environments within sectors with the highest levels of security regulation, such as nuclear power and finance. The experience of stably operating large language models (LLMs) under strict constraints isolated from external networks directly meets the requirements of this project, where closed-network deployment and data sovereignty are essential.
In addition to this, the consortium aims to implement a practical model that can be immediately deployed in real-world scenarios by combining its proven experience in operational monitoring and defense that has stably protected public Naver (NAVER) services amid escalating cyber threats, along with expertise in data encryption and isolation based on Public Cloud Security Certification (CSAP).
LG CNS possesses specialized organizations across all areas of cybersecurity, including red teams, blue teams, and AI security teams, as well as AX business experience across various industries. Furthermore, it plans to further enhance model learning by utilizing communication network-specific data from group companies such as LG Uplus, and complete the functionality and performance through validation in complex security environments.
This consortium includes a total of 33 industry-academia-research institutional investors, organically combining cybersecurity specialist firms with attack and detection technologies, major universities researching vulnerabilities and AI safety, and research and public institutional investors responsible for national-level threat data and third-party verification. The company added that through this collaboration, it has established a system capable of completing the entire lifecycle required for developing cybersecurity-specialized models independently without external reliance.
Kim Yu-won, CEO of Naver Cloud, stated, "As cyber threats become increasingly sophisticated by leveraging AI, internalizing defense systems with proprietary AI technology is key to national security." He further added, "Based on practical security capabilities, we will develop a sovereign security AI that best understands the domestic cyber threat environment and elevate national security capabilities to the next level."
