SK Telecom has launched a free value-added service, 'T Roaming Safe Country,' that enables customers to block roaming services in unwanted countries beforehand.
On the 22nd, SKT announced the launch of the 'T Roaming Safe Country' service, which checks whether roaming is permitted in a specific country when a customer first attempts to connect to an overseas mobile network, and blocks the roaming connection if it is not allowed.
The service is based on the 'Fraud Detection System (FDS).' It supports more proactive security management by adding 'T Roaming Safe Country,' which allows customers to directly set their roaming usage scope by country, to a continuous security system that detects and blocks abnormal signs in real time both domestically and internationally.
This is the first time a service has been launched domestically that restricts unwanted roaming connections by country at the stage of accessing overseas networks. It can reduce the possibility of billing or fraudulent use resulting from unintended access to overseas networks.
The service is divided into two types: 'T Roaming Safe Country (Automatic)' and 'T Roaming Safe Country (Manual).' The 'Automatic' type is useful for customers who frequently travel abroad on business or multi-country trips and want to reduce the hassle of setting their visited country each time, while the 'Manual' type is beneficial for customers who repeatedly visit specific countries and wish to pre-designate their roaming usage countries.
With 'T Roaming Safe Country (Automatic),' there is no need to directly set the visited country every time one travels or goes on a business trip abroad. When a customer attempts to connect to an overseas network, SKT verifies whether the roaming is due to a normal departure by comprehensively considering factors such as airport visits prior to departure and overseas network access information. If it is judged as normal usage, the roaming connection is established.
'T Roaming Safe Country (Manual)' is a service that allows customers to directly select the countries in which they wish to use roaming services. Customers can only use the roaming service in countries designated in advance, and if no allowed country is registered, overseas roaming connections are fundamentally blocked.
Yoon Jae-woong, Head of SKT's Product & Brand Division, stated, "We have launched 'T Roaming Safe Country,' which allows customers to filter out unwanted roaming usage in advance, in addition to the continuous security system that detects and blocks abnormal signs in real time." He added, "Going forward, we will continue to expand customer-centric safe services so that customers can use communication services without worry anywhere, both domestically and internationally."
