Claims have been raised that integration with the Korea SMEs & Startups Corporation (Han Yu-won) is unavoidable to resolve the recurring issues of poor and bloated management at Public Home Shopping. The argument is that integrating Han Yu-won and Public Home Shopping should strengthen functions supporting sales channels for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Kim Won-ee, a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker on the National Assembly Committee on Industry, Trade, Resources and SMEs & Startups, stated during the comprehensive national audit of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups on the 23rd, citing points raised in national audits related to Public Home Shopping from 2021 to 2026, that "committee members from both ruling and opposition parties have pointed out (the poor and bloated management of Public Home Shopping) without exception."
Kim (Rep.) then asked Han Yu-won (CEO), the director general, "Are you not pushing for merger and integration with the plan to overcome the insolvency and resolve issues at Public Home Shopping through integration, unify Han Yu-won's sales channel policy execution functions with Public Home Shopping's support, and provide one-stop support for SME sales channels?"
When asked further, "Are you not planning to drive SME growth through Jeonju-based SME support that leads to marketing, sales, and performance management upon integration?", Lee (CEO) replied, "Yes. That is correct."
Given that issues such as unfair personnel appointments, breach of trust, and improper contracts have persisted at Public Home Shopping, the argument is that this opportunity should be used to integrate with Han Yu-won to ensure transparency while subdividing sales channel support policies and other measures to generate synergy effects.
Additionally, Kim (Rep.) urged Lee (CEO), the director general, to proactively explain the reasons and necessity for integrating Han Yu-won and Public Home Shopping externally, with Han Yu-won taking the lead in doing so.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups is pushing a plan to integrate Han Yu-won and Public Home Shopping into an entity tentatively named the "SME Marketing Promotion Corporation." The goal is to maximize effectiveness by consolidating sales channel support policies, such as discovering SME products, with TV and online sales channel operation functions into a unified support system.
However, on that day, the labor union of Public Home Shopping indicated its opposition to integration at the national audit site, stating that consultations with internal employees had been insufficient in the integration discussion process.
