Actress Cha Ye-ryeon, 41, is in the midst of school bullying suspicions, and the YouTube production team has closed the comment section.
The production team of the YouTube channel "Cha Jang-geum Cha Ye-ryeon" said on Sunday via the channel, "We are currently in the U.S. with Cha Ye-ryeon and learned about the current situation while there, so we apologize for the delayed response. YouTube comments are managed by the production team's judgment without the involvement of the cast."
It said, "While verification is underway regarding the (school bullying) related matter, we will deactivate some videos and the comment section to prevent the indiscriminate spread of rumors and personal attacks on family members. We ask for your understanding."
Currently, most of the videos posted on the channel have their comment functions restricted. However, comments on the most recently uploaded video are not blocked, and comments urging an explanation regarding the school bullying suspicions and messages of support continue to pour in.
Recently, a post on an online community claimed that a female actress born in 1985, who graduated from Junggye Middle School in Nowon-gu, Seoul, bullied and assaulted them during their time at the school. The author stated they suffered damage to their eardrum from being slapped and also released photos from a graduation album.
Based on the circumstances described in the post, as Cha was identified as the perpetrator of school bullying, her agency HB Entertainment dismissed the suspicions as "groundless."
However, another exposé comment claiming that "Cha Ye-ryeon was one of the bullies" has emerged, while claims such as "Cha Ye-ryeon was not someone who hit or bullied others" are also coming out. As conflicting accounts from classmates continue, the controversy has not subsided for several days.
Cha Ye-ryeon, who debuted in 2005 with the film "Whispering Corridors 4: Voice," married actor Joo Sang-wook in 2017 and has one daughter.
