Shinhan Card will launch a simple out-of-pocket insurance claim service, the first in the card industry. When customers pay with Shinhan Card at hospitals or clinics, they can file for insurance benefits through the 'Shinhan SOL Pay' app (application) without issuing separate documents or navigating to the 'Silsom24' site. Shinhan Card aims to increase customer app usage rates while linking group affiliates and health care-related financial services in the long term.
According to financial industry sources on the 25th, Shinhan Card will launch a simple out-of-pocket insurance claim service based on card payment records next month. By integrating with 'Silsom24,' the out-of-pocket claim system operated by the Korea Insurance Development Institute, the company will support the service at approximately 50,000 medical institutions nationwide.
When customers pay with Shinhan Card at hospitals or pharmacies, they can check their payment records in the Shinhan SOL Pay app and immediately file for insurance benefits. There is no need to visit a hospital to issue separate paper documents or submit them to an insurance company. Additionally, there is no need to visit the 'Silsom24' site. While out-of-pocket insurance claims could previously be made through platforms such as Toss and Naver, users were required to go through the procedure of navigating to the 'Silsom24' site midway.
After the Financial Services Commission improved services on the 7th, it became possible to claim insurance benefits 'one-stop' within platforms like Toss and Naver without going through the Silsom24 site. Shinhan Card has implemented a complete insurance claim function in its SOL Pay app, marking the first instance among card companies.

Shinhan Card plans to continuously upgrade the service. First, by the end of this year, it will provide a service that notifies customers the next day whether insurance benefits can be claimed when paying with Shinhan Card at hospitals and pharmacies. Next year, it will introduce an out-of-pocket insurance claim service based on My Data in conjunction with Silsom24. If connected via My Data, simple claims can be used even when paying with cards from other companies rather than Shinhan Card.
In the long term, the company plans to develop services such as automatic insurance benefit claims utilizing AI (artificial intelligence) agents.
This simple claim service is part of Shinhan Card's strategy to retain customers through app convenience. Until now, competition in the card industry has focused on differentiating benefits such as discounts and point accumulation for card products. Now, the company aims to enhance competitiveness with non-price elements such as simple insurance benefit claims.
Simple out-of-pocket insurance claims can increase customer visit rates to the Shinhan SOL Pay app. This is known as a 'lock-in' effect. If the 'claimable notification' function is introduced by year-end, it will be easier to induce customers to visit the app.
Beyond simple insurance benefit claims, Shinhan Card plans to provide various health care financial services linked with affiliates such as Shinhan Bank and Shinhan Life. For example, Shinhan Bank operates a 'SOL Mate Health Care' service that provides pension-receiving customers with hospital reservations, health check-up privileges, and nurse accompaniment for patients with severe illnesses. Through this, it becomes possible to proceed one-stop from payment via Shinhan Card at a hospital to insurance benefit claims.
A Shinhan Card official said, "We are promoting the expansion of data-based lifestyle financial services to reduce inconveniences felt by customers in daily life," adding, "We plan to continuously expand various services that will enhance convenience going forward."
