Kolom Industries said Wednesday that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for an airbag fabric production plant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The establishment of this plant follows the airbag fabric supply contract signed last December between Kolon Industries and Autoliv, a global automotive safety parts company.
The total investment is approximately 70 billion won, with completion scheduled for June next year and product supply to Autoliv set to begin in January 2028.
Subsequently, the company plans to pursue production stabilization and expansion of supply volumes through 2029, and expects to generate annual revenue of over 50 billion won from the new plant alone starting in 2030, when full-scale deliveries are expected to commence.
The existing Vietnam plant has manufactured airbag cushions by sourcing fabric produced in Korea and China. With this investment, Kolon Industries will install new weaving, processing, and coating equipment, establishing an integrated production system covering everything from fabric production to cushion manufacturing.
The company also plans to apply the latest production technologies at the new plant to secure long-term production competitiveness.
Heo Seong, president of Kolon Industries, said, "The establishment of this Vietnam plant is an investment aimed at stably supplying world-class airbag materials to Autoliv, one of our most important customers."
He added, "Going forward, we will continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the global automotive materials market based on our differentiated technological capabilities and production capacity."
