
Park Hong-geun, Minister of the Ministry of Planning and Budget, stated that “other funding sources will be utilized” in response to President Lee Jae-myung’s proposal to use the Future Response Fund for holiday discount support budget.
On the 8th, during the morning national audit of the Office of the Prime Minister at the Finance and Economic Planning Committee of the National Assembly, Park (Minister) stated as much in response to a question from People Power Party lawmaker Bae Jun-young, saying that it “does not fall under the nature of the Future Response Fund.”
Previously, President Lee proposed on the 29th of last month at a cabinet meeting a plan to expand the budget for holiday agricultural, livestock and marine product discount support to approximately 1 trillion won by utilizing the Future Response Fund.
Mentioning President Lee’s remarks, Bae (Rep.) asked Park (Minister), “Most lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties have expressed concerns or opposing opinions; what will you do?”
He answered, “I understand that the President has generally spoken without detailed knowledge of specific items or projects within the Future Response Fund.”
He stated, “Regarding holidays, the budget had already been allocated this year, including changes to fund operations,” clearly expressing his intention not to use the Future Response Fund.
