Actress Hwang Shin-hye expressed her thoughts on the controversy surrounding YouTuber Park Wi's release of video footage of a fall incident on the KTX that recently erupted.
On the 28th, Hwang Shin-hye posted on social media (SNS) showing herself having lunch with her family, stating, "Meeting my sibling made me feel deeply concerned and unsettled as a parent of a disabled child about the current situation."
She continued, "I believe that even small consideration from someone can become great strength for many who need help," adding, "I hope only that warm heart remains unchanged."
Hwang Shin-hye's younger brother, Hwang Jeong-eon, was healthy enough to enlist in the Marine Corps but suffered a neck injury in a traffic accident at age 29 and was diagnosed with quadriplegia. Since then, he has been active for over 30 years as a mouth painter who draws with his mouth.
In a recent broadcast, Hwang Jeong-eon mentioned that during his hospitalization, he had to change positions every two hours to prevent bedsores, and added, "On days without filming, my older sister stayed up all night caring for me," expressing gratitude to Hwang Shin-hye.
Hwang Shin-hye has also shared difficulties encountered while living with her sibling through broadcasts and SNS. Last year, while traveling with her brother, she noted the reality that few restaurants are accessible by wheelchair.
Hwang Shin-hye's post came amid criticism against YouTuber Park Wi for releasing footage of a fall incident on the KTX.
On the 21st, Park Wi released closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage on her YouTube channel 'WERACLE' showing herself falling while stepping off the KTX in a wheelchair, tripped by the foot of a social service worker standing beside the ramp.
Park Wi emphasized the need for safety education for wheelchair users and said, "I'm not sure if it was intentional, but I was angry about someone placing their foot on the ramp."
However, criticism continued that releasing the CCTV footage at the time was excessive, given that the incident was a mistake made while providing assistance and an apology had already been issued.
Park Wi later deleted the video and apologized, saying, "I viewed the mistake that occurred during the process of helping me too negatively," adding, "My delivery method was immature, and my thinking was short-sighted."
Following the controversy, some scheduled lectures and events were canceled, and Park Wi announced her intention to voluntarily resign from her position as a Seoul city promotional ambassador.
