Rapper Noel (real name Jang Yong-jun) spoke out regarding the controversy over him being a building owner worth 100 billion won.
On the 19th, Noel held a live broadcast on his social media. He sat before the camera in casual attire to communicate with fans that day.
During the broadcast, when a viewer asked, "Why did you evade taxes on 20 billion won?" Noel responded, "I don't have 20 billion won," showing a bewildered reaction. He then added, "Please go to Namu Wiki and ask someone to delete that. It says I own a building worth 100 billion won; if I had 100 billion won, why would I make music? Please delete it," strongly expressing his sense of injustice.
Shortly after, Noel also showed a cheerful side, saying, "Well, that's nice too. Let's just say I'm going to be a chaebol. Let's assume it's true."
However, he became furious when allegations of drug use were raised. When the question "Do you smoke marijuana?" came up, Noel used profanity. He stated, "Come and try pulling out my hair. See what comes out. You don't even know anything," while declaring his willingness to undergo a hair test to express his sense of injustice.
This is interpreted as a strong response after the recent arrest of Indigo Music rapper Kim Gam-jeon (Kim Sang-min, whose name means 'Kim Sang-min dares to be called a legend'·real name Kim Sang-min) on suspicion of marijuana use caused collateral damage to Noel himself.
Born in 2000, Noel is the son of the late Jang Je-won, a member of the National Assembly. He gained attention by appearing on Mnet's 'High School Rapper' and 'Show Me The Money 6' in 2017. However, he faced multiple controversies, including being sentenced to a suspended prison term for drunk driving and swapping drivers in 2019, and serving a one-year prison sentence in 2021 for unlicensed driving, refusing alcohol testing, and obstructing official duties.
According to public disclosure of National Assembly members' property information, Noel's total assets were 55 million won when he was 19 years old in March 2018, but after receiving and selling non-listed shares from his grandmother who ran a real estate rental business, his assets increased to 234 million won.
Subsequently, some claimed he was a building owner worth 100 billion won and raised allegations of tax evasion amounting to hundreds of billions of won, but these have not been confirmed.
