AI semiconductor startup Furiosa AI will supply 123 billion won worth of NPUs (neural processing units) to an AI data center in Sweden. This marks the first time a domestic AI semiconductor startup has conducted exports in the tens of billions of won range. Competitors such as Rebellion are also conducting overseas field tests, so global achievements for native AI semiconductors are expected to increase further.
On the 5th, Furiosa AI announced its participation in an AI data center project being built in Stockholm, Sweden, alongside U.S. AI infrastructure company I/ONX HPC and data center development and operations firm Velox. Through this project, Furiosa AI will export a total of over 8,800 'Renegade' NPUs to Sweden.
The data center is scheduled to first operate at 2MW in the first phase in early 2027, followed by construction up to a total capacity of 15MW. Furiosa AI plans to supply 1,800 units aligned with the first-phase operation and will subsequently supply a total of 8,800 units. While the exact amount is undisclosed, considering that each Renegade unit costs approximately $10,000 (14.5 million won), the first-phase supply value is estimated at 25 billion won, and the total supply value is projected to reach 123 billion won.
In this project, the Renegade will be mounted on I/ONX's high-density AI server platform 'Symphony Sixty' alongside GPUs (graphics processing units) to form a heterogeneous AI computing environment. The structure utilizes GPUs for model training upon user request and employs Renegade for AI agent inference and other tasks. Velox will be responsible for the development and operation of the data center.
The 15MW data center being built here is comparable in scale to building-type data centers typically constructed by domestic telecommunications companies. Although it is a small-to-medium-sized facility, it holds significant meaning as a domestic startup supplying NPUs in large quantities to an overseas data center. While Furiosa AI has previously supplied Renegade products to data centers such as Samsung SDS and Equinix, the volume was not in the thousands of units like this time. Park Jun-ho, CEO of Furiosa AI, stated, "This project is an important milestone for the full-scale application of Furiosa AI products in European data centers."
The high power efficiency of the Renegade and its track record of validation with customers such as LG, Samsung, and Aramco before and after Yangsan influenced this supply. The Renegade boasts more than twice the power efficiency compared to NVIDIA's GPUs in the AI inference domain.
A Furiosa AI official explained, "There is growing demand for AI infrastructure with high power efficiency and low total cost of ownership (TCO) in Europe," adding, "The technical stability verified with early customers such as LG, Samsung, and Aramco also influenced this contract."
Meanwhile, competitors like Rebellion are also approaching global achievements. Rebellion plans to mass-produce the NPU 'Rebel 100', which is equipped with HBM (high-bandwidth memory) similar to Renegade, in the second half of this year. It has already successfully operated on AI models such as MiniMax, GPT-oss, and A.X K1.
A Rebellion official stated, "Our goal for the second half is to mass-produce and supply 'Rebel Server', a server product equipped with Rebel 100," adding, "We are currently receiving orders from global customers regarding Rebel 100." They further added, "As we are negotiating with various regions beyond the Middle East, Japan, and Singapore, we expect significant results."
