National athletes including O Sang-wook, Park Hye-jung, and Hwang Sun-woo, who will compete at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, gathered together to pledge their success. SK Telecom will support the athletes' medal challenges by providing AI (artificial intelligence) technology and specialized personnel.
SKT announced on the 26th that it held a 'Team SKT' departure ceremony at the Jincheon Athlete Village in North Chungcheong Province to wish for the success of its sponsored athletes. This is the third such departure ceremony, following those for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Eight national athletes sponsored by SKT attended the departure ceremony, including fencers O Sang-wook, Do Kyung-dong, Song Se-ra, and Jeon Ha-young; weightlifter Park Hye-jung; swimmer Hwang Sun-woo; track and field athlete Namadi Joeljin; and sport climber Noh Hyun-seung. The athletes expressed their determination to face the Asian Games and pledged to repay the nation's support with excellent performances.
The nation's support for the athletes was also conveyed. SKT unveiled a 'National Support Flag' containing messages of encouragement collected through its onLINE campaign. Kwon Yeong-sang, SKT CommJi Won (Head), presented the flag to Jincheon Athlete Village Director Kim Tak-soo, imbued with the meaning of wishing for the success of Team SKT and the entire South Korean delegation.
SKT will continue to support efforts to improve the athletes' training and performance. Having served as the honorary president of the Korea Fencing Association for 24 years, SKT will additionally dispatch mandatory trainers and power analysis officers to manage the athletes' physical condition for this tournament.
The national fencing team's training will also utilize 'SKT-FAN (Fencing AI Nexus),' an AI-powered power analysis system developed in-house by SKT. Using AI-based computer vision technology, the system analyzes match footage to automatically extract scoring and conceding scenes and supports the identification of opponents' tactics and attack patterns.
Executive Director Kwon said, "We hope that SKT's AI technology, our long-standing sports sponsorship expertise, and the nation's encouragement will become a strong support for Team SKT athletes." He added, "We will provide comprehensive physical and financial support to ensure the athletes' challenges lead to positive results that bring great emotion to the nation."
