The Broadcast Media and Communications Commission is taking steps to ensure universal viewing rights for the Asian Games scheduled to take place this month.
On the 4th, through the "33rd Committee Meeting (Written Procedure) for 2026," the Commission recommended that broadcasters of the "2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games," which will run from the 19th to October 4, implement sequential scheduling and actively broadcast new events such as non-popular sports and e-Sports.
The Commission recommended that broadcasters avoid excessive overlap in scheduling popular events by implementing sequential scheduling across channels and media platforms. However, exceptions are made for events of high national interest, such as opening and closing ceremonies and matches featuring the South Korean national team.
Furthermore, the Commission urged broadcasters to actively cover new events including non-popular sports and e-Sports broadcast during this tournament, as well as the Parapan Asian Games (the 18th–24), held consecutively, so that citizens wishing to watch these events are not excluded.
This recommendation was decided at the 4th meeting of the "9th Universal Viewing Rights Guarantee Committee" (Chairman Go Min-soo) held in August, aimed at expanding citizens' viewing opportunities and ensuring universal viewing rights.
Kim Jong-cheol Bang Mi-tong-wi (Director) stated, "The Asian Games is an international event that brings joy and emotion to the people. I urge broadcasters to make efforts so that citizens' viewing rights are substantively guaranteed."
